Crappy Arma 3 FPS no matter what settings

Hey guys,

I got Arma 3 not too long ago, and when I got it, I knew about the crappy FPS, optimization stuff, the and started fiddling around with the video settings in the game....

So I had the settings on Ultra, 2000 meter viewing distance, max AA, 2K resolution, and was getting no more than 28 FPS, so I expected this.

Then I lowered the settings a bit to try to get a more enjoyable framerate, lowered the AA to 0, even tried 1080P, and still got 28 FPS max. Whats up with this?

My system specs are:
I5 6600K overclocked to 4.4 GHZ
AMD Sapphire Fury
16 gb 3200 MHz RAM
Samsung 950 pro
And the motherboard which shouldn't make any difference is Asus z170 deluxe

So to anyone that has Arma 3, why is it doing this? I know its CPU intensive, but even after lowering settings like no AA and 1080P, it should've made the FPS better in theory.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hmm, what resolution is your monitor?
ARMA III is a poorly optimized game.

Your build is high end. Make sure your Vsync is on?

Yes Freesync is on, its a 4k monitor, but can be downscaled to whatever, I was, and normally play at 2k. But after lowering settings from having them completely maxed out, the FPS logically should have gone up.

Video card drivers are up to date, Latest Radeon Crimson drivers, like last weeks installed.

Star wars Battlefront maxed, full AA, @2k res, I'm getting 60FPS Minimum, so it has to be Arma, I literally just put Arma at its lowest settings, and got max 30fps, I mean, what the hell...

What is Microsoft Visual C++?
Also, what is Microsoft NetFrameWork v4.5 , its from 2012?
I just built this anyways, and installed all the latest drivers.
Where can I find the game patches?

As much as ive read about how un-optimized Arma is, I never saw anything this Horrendous, even with half the system ive got...

In your game install is some of the listed software to run the game. Look for a game folder called "redist" (something similar) and you may find Visual C++, directx to update

Your answer, sadly, lies within the Arma 3 engine itself. I've seen some monstrous builds running the game with 40-50 FPS on MEDIUM. One thing, though, try turning off the ambient occlusion or whatever that is called, as it is the thing, with Arma engines, what drags the FPS down a lot. Give that a try, buddy.

Yeah, I had a feeling that's what it would be. See though, I don't know what it is, except maybe the game engine.
I cranked the settings up yesterday to complete Ultra, ultra everything and max AA and was getting anywhere from 45 to 64 FPS, go to a different part of the map, or different time of day, and I could get 28 fps max.
So all in all the settings don't do jack squat to increase FPS from what ive noticed, like there is no point in downscaling the "eye candy" because all of the FPS, or most of it ive noticed is coming from the CPU. So ill just keep the settings cranked up to max for now on, after all it is a pretty freaking good looking game on ultra and max AA at 2k resolution.

Another thing is not having to many AI on the map, since having most of the FPS coming from the CPU, the CPU has to work with the AI on say the other side of the map, while working on FPS.

Thanks for the reply though, any help Is always welcomed 😀

One more thing, do you know anything about how to activate AMD Fluid Motion, that's something ive been working on figuring out recently, and is ticking me off, on PowerDVD 15, I try to activate it, and powerDVD which is supposed to support it says it wont work, and its activated in Rdeon Crimson, all it does is double the FPS in Movies from 24 to 48 fps.

Solution

Thanks for the help, I'm pretty sure the AMD Fluid Motion problem has to do with PowerDVD, I've got to jump through some hoops for the PowerDVD technical support to figure it out....

And I found out exactly what the stupid problem was with Arma 3 getting max 28 FPS, I got pissed because the FPS was so crappy and I knew that my gpu should've been making me get 60 fps on max in that game, so I quickly went into task manager to shut the game down immediately, accidently exited task manager, game pops up and Fraps zooms to telling me I'm getting 64fps from what was 28, why? I will never know, its only that game, so when my FPS is crap at first entry into the game all I do is go into task manager, not even task manager, just ctrl alt del, and instant FPS boost granted...
