crashed internal hard drive creates new drives with crazy file names

MY hard drive crashed and said to use a boot disk to restore. Did that and it crashed midway. Had a pal look at it and when he finally "saw" directories, it had created multiple drives with nonsensical file names. What now? Is my PC a goner?

Really, crazy file names are usually a byproduct of Malware and Viruses. Try to save whatever data, if any, off your current drive, wipe and test the drive with an HD testing software. If there are any errors or issues, replace the Hard drive and reload operating system.

oh gosh, I was using Norton for last few years and felt pretty safe. Well, at this point, I can't get anything off it unless I take it to Best BUy or some place like that...they SAY they can retrieve my files...don't know what else to do at this point...Hoping I can ave anything.
