Hello,

Currently, I am experiencing that when I play intensive games, my PC just randomly shuts off after about half an hour of gameplay. Previously, I have been getting Nvidia OpenGL logs"
DrvSetContext failed functionality indeterminant" and were experiencing these logs for a while. I thought this was the cause of the shutdowns but I managed to fix it after doing a DDU on my GPU and CPU. I stopped getting any OpenGl logs after this. I have still tried to fix the issue surrounding the 'Nvlddmkm' issue though as a lot of people have similar issues. I have tried changing my PCIE gen, changing the Nvlddmkm permissions in the system 32 folder, turning off DOCP overclocking for my RAM, switching the RAM, reseating my GPU, changing the CMOS battery, doing a DDU uninstall, running a memtest but nothing. I am sure there are other fixes I have done but forgotten. What is strange is that my system does not shut off during any stress test, just during the more demanding games. Strangely I have also been getting VSS logs in event viewer:" Volume Shadow Copy Service information: The COM Server with CLSID {4e14fba2-2e22-11d1-9964-00c04fbbb345} and name CEventSystem cannot be started. [0x8007045b, A system shutdown is in progress.]" but these logs do not match up with the time the system shutdowns occur. I'm starting to think that this is now a hardware issue as I have tried everything I can. Any suggestions would be welcome though.

Specs:

Ryzen 7800X3D
RTX 4090
32Gb DDR5 ram 6000mhz
Asus TUF B650 Plus Wifi
Corsair 1000W PSU

follow this step by step in order (read till end):
  • Disconnect from internet
  • Uninstall every gpu driver using DDU (clean and do not restart).
  • Uninstall all the processors (is a must, should be 16 on yours, also when it asks for restart, click on no and keep uninstalling all processors) on device manager like this:
    unknown.png

  • Uninstall AMD Chipset Software in control panel (if there is none, skip it.)

  • restart the pc to bios, disable AMD fTPM and secure boot, save and exit, go to bios again, flash to the latest bios (if it isn't the latest), go to bios after finished updating, then load default or optimized settings, disable CSM (or legacy compability), save and exit, go to bios again for the 2nd time, enable Above 4G Decoding and Resizable bar option (these 2 options wont be available unless CSM is disabled), enable EXPO for ram speeds, set your personal settings and tweaks again, then save and exit.

  • boot up to windows and install the latest Chipset driver (should be ver 6.01.xxx as per time i write this), then reboot. after that check in Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > AMD Chipset Software and see if its already ver 6.01.xxx that's installed. The Asus one listed the old drivers, so better try to use the latest ones.

  • Install this vulkan developer driver instead, disable "Memory Integrity" on Core isolation, reboot, and then you're good to go to connect to internet.

*do this all offline until reboot after installing chipset driver, also you may reboot to bios after all of this to set the EXPO (and previous settings you did). Download needed files (highlighted word) before doing step 1, do the step by orders.

  • Run cmd as admin, then do chkdsk /x /f /r, after that do sfc /scannow

  • If your psu doesn't have 12VHPWR and you use 12VHPWR to 8 Pin, make sure the psu pcie 8 pin connected to the 12VHPWR adapter is 1 pcie cable per 1 slot (use main cable, not the branches/split) like this:

Hello again.

I have tried your fix and have had promising results FOR NOW.

To test whether these fixes have worked for me, I have been doing one particular flight in a flight simulator called MSFS2020. USUALLY, my computer shuts off around an hour into the flight, proving that the fix has not worked. That's how I have been able to cancel out every fix I have tried to apply. There has been an occasion where I have done the full flight but when reattempting it, my computer shut off again. After applying your fix, I did manage to get through a full flight without my PC shutting off. For now, this is good news but I will have to do further testing tomorrow to ensure the fix has worked as I do not have time to do another flight today. If the fix does not work my PC should just shut down when I test it tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far and I'll again keep you updated.

Best thing to make sure everything works, is by using it daily like what you always do usually without the intention to reproduce the problem, so that when it happens again, you could check if it is the same one, or a new one.

Tried to do a gaming session as I usually do and the computer sadly shut off. I have tried troubleshooting with the people that built my PC but I’ve exhausted all their options so now they’re encouraging an RMA. Probably the best option at this point unless I can troubleshoot further? Thanks for the assistance so far.

How about disabling expo in bios and see if it's giving the same symptomps, just letting the ram run with jedec speeds.
