I built this PC a few years ago it worked ok for a while but then I started getting crashes to a black screen and while playing things like, Diablo 2 Resurrected, Valheim, Monster Train, etc. Never had crashes on desktop or while doing anything other than gaming.
I’ve had this issue for months and tried many things. So I’m looking for any help you can give.
The crashes seem random and intermittent. It will crash to a black screen while audio from the game continues then the monitors go to power save mode and turn off. I’m forced to shut down the pc by holding down the power button. If I turn it right back on the monitors will get no signal. So I have to leave it off for like 10 mins before the monitors will connect again. When it crashes theres no revving fans or strange noises and all of the lights on the components stay on.
I’ve had no temperature issues with the gpu or cpu.
Build
Processor: Intel core i9-9900K cpu @ 3.60GHz
Cooler: Corsair H150i PRO liquid cpu cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte z390 Aorus Pro Wifi
Ram: Corsair vengeance (2 x 16gb) DDR4-3200
Storage: 2x Samsung 970 evo 1TB M.2-2280 NVME
Gpu: MSI GeForce rtx 3080 gaming x trio
Case: Lian Li PC-011 ATX case
Power Source: Corsair HX1000, 1000 watt 80+ platinum certified
OS: Windows 10 64 bit
What I have tried
New DisplayPort cables
Reseating the card
DDU uninstall/ re-install drivers
Updating drivers for gpu
Changed many settings in nvidia control panel
Going back to old gpu drivers
Clean installing windows
Upgrading the power source
Replacing the motherboard
Replacing the RAM
Using a 2080 ti - no longer got black screen crashes but games were constantly crashing to desktop
Finally I RMA’d the 3080 and got it back, yet I am still having these crashes. At this point I’m not sure if it’s the gpu itself that is the problem, unless both the 3080 and 2080 ti are faulty in some way and after RMA the 3080 is still broken. So what else could it be?
I really appreciate any help. This is my first PC build, I’m not a computer whiz, I mainly just watched YouTube vids on how to build it.
