Right, so I'm wondering if this is a good idea. My current character is a level
9 Human Fighter (on dungeon level 8), currently using the following gear:

+0/+2 Morningstar of Protection
+3 Ring of Protection
Ring of Poison Resistance
Horned Helmet
+2 Buckler of Protection

....for a total AC of 19. Not bad! My stats are Str 18, Int 9, Dex 15.

Now, I've just found this amulet that does the following:

Protects from confusion
AC +2
Damage-dealing +3
Strength -3

I can't tell whether it helps or hurts on balance. What do you all think?
Also, I found a ring of regeneration. Would it make sense to replace one of my
current rings with it?

Never, ever forget that you are now able to eat poisonous food, BTW, and that
since poisonous food will never make you sick, you now have a considerably
broader diet available.

Since the otherwise not-very-useful !oHealing will heal confusion, there are
not enough confusers to make this very useful until the lower Swamp and the
Elven Halls. If you have poison resistance, not so useful in the lower Swamp
either (poison resistance also protects from the confusing/mildy poisoning
clouds some beasties breathe).

> AC +2

With 19 already, it's debatable. IIUC, if you're wearing heavy armour it's a
little more useful than otherwise (besides raising your average protection,
any increase also raises your guaranteed protection), but still it's not
really decisive.

> Damage-dealing +3

Useful.

> Strength -3

Unfortunate. 🙂

It's very, very close.

Normally I'd be hesitant, because it increases your food consumption. But the
ring of poison resistance speaks in its favor. If you do wear it, it changes
the equation in favor of the amulet somewhat, due to the drop in AC.

All in all I'd say you're doing quite well for physical protection, so the
moment a ring of fire resistance comes along, I'd put it alongside the ring
of poison resistance. (Cold resistance is less important and I wouldn't
switch it for that.)
