My carnivorous kobold just accidentally ate some rotten meat without
getting sick, I tried again on purpose, same effect, as if he was
wearing his amulet of the gourmand, which he isn't, though. What's
going on here?

I've noticed that naturally carnivorous critters (like my troll, and
this kobold) get sick from (fresh) orc meat (and similar) a lot less
often, which I don't quite understand, either.

Natural canivores are much more resistant to bad meat. The chance to get
sick from orc meat is

1/45 for Trolls and Kobolds
1/15 for Orcs and Ogres
1/3 for the rest

while for rotten meat it's 1/15, 1/5, 1 respectively.
