Well. i died often. i died unexpected and i often died too while DONT WANTED
TO DIE

Well. this Rng Hates me but now im able to strike back. Started Mummy. Made
it alive to the Temple, made it alive to the Snake Pit and NOW im the one
the RNG hates. Currently im at Bottom level of The Snake Pit. My only
concern is to not forgot to have feet (didnt moved a single step since
400.000 Turns) Well, maybe not capable to move upon all the Bones Piling up
around me....

Well. lot of macroing, lot of waiting spellcasting and HAR i'm the Living
trap there. Only Nagas and Snakes is not something one have to be feared of
if you just live upon their breath and dont care 'bout Poison or food 🙂))

Well. After diying THAT OFTEN with very Promising Chars, ill stay in the
snakepit till the tectonic movement whirled me around earth for several
times (g) Time does not matter.
I have to set up some real good spells (crystal spear etc) to a good
sucessing level and then maybe ill go for the orb..... Well im a mummy of
course. so why hurrying ? Currently im thinking
about moving a step to the north.... but there is a book lying in the way
and im to lazy to step on it.... better wait till its fallen to dust.... to
hasty moving wears of the bandages.....

Besides that: how can i 'refresh my bandages' ? Does i need to 'evaporate' a
potion or ?

Be careful that you don't end up completely walled in by them. 😉

At first I thought this sentence would end 'till the tectonic
movement shifted me into Zot' or something. Just staying in place
and let the ground move you. :)

:) While everything else might come to you, the runes won't, so I
suggest going for two more of them, first.

LOL.

In an emergency, you could steal over to Nethack and grab some mummy
wrappings there. (I just checked, I never took one along, but we
planned a raid of their demigodbar anyway, and someone should have
brought some... <g>)

Neat. My best mummy was a Level 13 Death Knight, the others rarely
got to Xl:4.

Well, that answers my question of whether there's any limit to turns
played, I guess (I was worrying with my SEEE, but he's been
wandering around the dungeon for not even half that time). :)

Looks like the only disadvantage of sitting around is not getting
all that much loot... Do the monsters actually bring much stuff with
them? (You should be able to make a good guess of how often they
actually bring items.)

The ring of intelligence might be more useful than the ring of
magical power, though.

The spell Sublimation of Blood turns any wielded chunks of meat into
mana, and with only the occasional monster turning up, you don't
need that much, do you?

That's useful.

Fighting provides hitpoints, so a little more wouldn't harm...

All the way to 27? I dread to think how long it'd take to do that
while sitting around (as opposed to going into dangerous areas).

Better to sneak over to ADOM, where you can get an artifact mummy
wrapping.

Nice idea, but what if they catch us? In the demigodbar, at least
we've got some allies ■, don't know about Adom...

Apart from that, I can't make any judgement on the proficiency of
Adom's winner characters.

With Nethack versus Crawl, while at a guess the Crawlers are greatly
outnumbered because Nethack is easier and looks like it has a bigger
fanbase, the Crawlers also bring along a great portion of innate
Luck (with a very capital L, much more than merely 'extremely
lucky') on top of the skill, because they had to survive the early
game in the first place, where - unlike Nethack - you don't have a
fair chance.

So the odds of getting back all in one piece (with some silver
dragon scales, half a saddle, a few broken bottles of fruit juice,
and a strip of throughouhgly burned mummy wrapping) don't look all
that bad... (No bets if we take the gods along. <g> [+])

Besides, you could fix a Nethack mummy wrapping, no? Fire/rot/
whatever -proof it. That should help with Andreas' worries about the
mummy wrapping rotting off his butt. 😉

■ If nothing else the Slash'EM Vampire wielding two machine guns
going berserk should make a nice surprise advantage. 😉 (Of course
she isn't the only one with machine guns up there... Others' YAAP
were rather entertaining and inspiring in the first place.)

I've had that happen at stashes, too. It once destroyed some books
from my up to that point complete collection (I didn't need all of
them anymore at that point, I just liked to have them all lying
around).

Since then I try not to leave too much on the same level, but if you
dump all the junk from the Orcish Mines and a few levels of the
Elven Halls on the same level, it can happen...

If you didn't mean the question about mummy bandages in a humorous
way, you might better phrase it less ambiguous, so people know what
you are actually refering to.

The reference to glowing further down suggests you mean mutations?
There weren't any in the dump, so I thought you had none...

Mummies have an ability that I don't quite know what it does:

(From some spoiler which I unfortunately can't attribute:)
Mummy:
Level 13: You can restore your body by infusing magicial energy.

Maybe that helps. Have you tried it?

>> What happened?

> Spellcasting failed and started to glow..... while forgotten to

So you'd lost the Sif Muna 'protection from some spellcasting'? (You
don't need to pray to 'switch the protection on'.)

Well, that's something to tell your grandch- eh, grand-zombies
about. :)

Depends on how you play:

Searar the Earth Mage (Sludge Elf)
(Level 27 Earth Elementalist)

Play time: 1 day, 13:59:27 Number of turns: 488643

:)

I didn't sit around and press shift+5 or something all the time, I
pressed ^G <Gemple> and ^G <level that I thought I had last been
on>, repeatedly frowned long and hard at all the junk lying in the
Temple, for example... Though I did hide some of that time in the
Tomb of D., waiting for mana and Hp to return to cast Alter Self
again. I had a macro for swapping rings of Int (to cast) for rings
of sustenance (to wait) and still had to go yak-hunting on occasion.
Eventually I gave up on the Tomb of D., because every time I came
out of it, all my Horrible Things had disappeared, so I just
surrounded myself with them instead.

Hmmm... Maybe training Transmigration could help you with mutations
(Alter Self gives you random mutations, and in my experience, if you
do it often enough, you'll end up with all good ones eventually,
very eventually <g>), since you sit around a lot anyway...

> well most relays on macros (resting/spellcasting/book-throwing)

You throw books at the wall? Are they that bad? <g>

> Sif Muna have handed me over every Book 2-3 times ... i have a

Ah. A good thing she doesn't care about what you do with them. (You
could sacrifice the doubles. You'd need to shuffle back to the
Temple for that, though, unless you've found another altar.)

> maybe a book is a good weapon ? ill throw one of my necronomicons
> at the next naga appearing

LOL. Should be worth it just for the confused look on the naga; "Eh?
What kind of attack is this!? They never said nothing about
adventurers throwing books! I quit!" <naga slouches off in a huff>.

For armour, you could just use detect curse and try on the non-
cursed stuff without any danger (apart from being vulnerable while
you take off/put on stuff). Check the stuff with the weirder
attributes first (anything that isn't glowing, shiny or embroidered,
though even those might be artifacts, the other strange armours just
certainly are).

If you find negatively enchanted artifact armour (or weapons), don't
waste your enchant scrolls on it, btw, they're fixed that way and
can't get any better (not worse, either, they're also corrosion
resistant, useful when you've got something with lots of plusses).

My words. :)

It's particularly effective when you've got something else to fight
for you, like a bunch of Horrible Things.

Hell gets you, though, but apart from that, true. :) (Though Hell is
not exatly 'someone', but rather 'something'. In Hell you get nasty
random things happen to you, no matter how well you hide. Chased my
SEEE out several times.)

Wand of healing or eventually the god that gives you healing abilities
(forgot the name). Evaporating potions of healing effects (as stated in
http://www.eleves.ens.fr/home/grasland/crawl/spoilers/crawl_potions_011.txt
by Erwan Grasland-Mongrain):

" Potion of healing
*****************

- Quaffed
Gives 1d7 + 4 hp, up to your max hp.
Cures poison, disease, rotting (without giving rotted hp back) and
confusion.
If your hp are now equal to your max hp, unrot 1 hp.
"You feel better."

- Evaporated
36% creates a cloud of steam
9% creates a cloud of fire
9% creates a mephitic cloud
9% creates a cloud of cold
9% creates a cloud of poison
9% creates a cloud of blue smoke
9% creates a cloud of black smoke
9% creates a cloud of purple smoke

Potion of heal wounds
*********************

- Quaffed
Gives 10 to 37 hp (with a strong probability of 23 or around), up to
your max hp.
If your hp are now equal to your max hp, unrot 2 to 6 hp (with a
strong probability of 4).
"You feel much better."

- Evaporated
Like a potion of healing

Mummies don't mutate, they rot -- I think it's a 50/50 chance of stat loss
or HP rotting, but in my experience it seems like the stat loss happens
more often.

I don't know what happens when you cast Alter Self or Xom tries to mutate
you. I mean, I know you can't mutate, but I don't know if it rots you or
if there's just no effect. If there's no effect, Xom might be a good
choice for a Mummy, since piety isn't an issue and I'm pretty sure his
minor favors that act as healing/heal wonds potions can unrot you. And if
you're sitting there for a million turns, he'll probably drop some neat
stuff on you.

It undoes up to 100 HP of rotting (and I think restores all stats) but you
permanently lose one max MP.
