....don't ever get so caught up in exploring your nifty new spells
you've never had before that you fail to check your hit points every
round you are in combat.

Oh, well, Brewer the Human Venom Mage made #3 on my high score list.
He might even have been my first Sif Munite to actually get gift
books, come to think of it.

I'll contribute my own painful lesson, just garnered after a lengthy
sabbatical from Crawl:

When invading the Tomb, always carefully clear the north, east, and
west faces before venturing south against the sphinxes and mummy
priests. That way, should you find yourself temporarily overmatched
by southerly smitings and summonings and so forced to flee, you won't
run into Xtahua on the way out.

Lost a truly promising L21 MuNe that way.

The good old Crawl 1:2 ko.

While we're on the subject of painful lessons, watch out for orange
statues when you're playing mummies. A level 27 MuNe learned that
lesson down on Zot:5 not too long ago.
