So I'm doing pretty well with Banya, the dwarf Geomancer (Earth
Elementalist); I just memorized Passwall, figured I'd try it out.
"that stone looks deep" or something. sure, I'm on dungeon level 3; so
what, the wall is only 2 spaces thick anyway.
-ouch-that really hurt-

is this because the wall was too deep, or because the spell failed, or

-=NEVER=- use the passwall spell until you've become even slightly
proficient in casting earth magic, or until you have found a staff of
earth to empower your earth-type spells. As well, ONLY cast passwall
on one-tile thick walls as those have the LEAST chance to kill you.

Sense surroundings is also *immensly* helpful in determining just
where you should go.
