[SOLVED] Crazy CPU Issue

Hello, before I get started here are my pc specs:

-Mobo: Asus H170-Pro
-CPU: Intel i5-6402P @2.80 Ghz
-GPU: GTX 1070TI
-RAM: 2133mhz DDR4 16 GB
-SSD: ADATA SP600 128gb

I have been playing games like Rainbow Six on this computer for a few years, previously using a 960 before deciding to upgrade to the current GPU. I also got myself a 144hz (BenQ Zowie) monitor. Initially, the game was working very well, running smoothly and the graphics were very high. Just recently, I decided to go into the nvidia 3d settings to improve the monitor settings after following a video. When i jumped back into Rainbow 6 Siege the frame rate was jumping like crazy, going around like 400-900 fps.

Going into task manager I now noticed that my CPU is now bottlenecking and that my computer is performing slightly worse than before. On top of this, I am also getting random freezing of my mouse and keyboard and I have no idea how to fix.

Thermal levels are still ok, remaining around 60 degrees Celsius. The overall framerate remains around 110 fps but the game doesn't look or feel like how it reads.

Looking at my current motherboard, the best compatible cpu is the i7-7700K, but I'm not sure if its worth making that upgrade (or if the performance will be better), which is why I am here.

What do you guys think I should do to solve this?

Solution
It sounds like whatever you changed in your Nvidia settings really jumbled something up. I’d try uninstalling your Nvidia drivers and reinstalling.

Were you happy with your FPS before changing these settings? I wouldn’t get a 7700k right now unless you get a great price on a used one.
