hello, recently my (other) computer was having some network issues with my home network so i decided to upgrade to sp2 (windows xp home) and ass it started updating it to sp2 threw all of the required restarts the computer was making beeping noises and when i would try to use the keyboard it wouldent work so i decided it was about time for a reinstall of windows. so i tryed to and now whenever i boot the computer it starts up and asks me if i want to goto windows xp or widows xp install, (and because my keyboard wont type i cant choose to goto windws xp so it trys to install but gets stuck at "Starting windows setup")
Can someone help me all i want to do is format my hard drive or just resinstal windows i dont care if i loose anything.
thanks
Jeff
This may or may not help, but it's another avenue to take in trying to resolve your problem.
First, what OS do you have on your PC now?
Next, remove all hardware from your system (other than the hard drive, floppy drive, CD/DVD drive, and video card). Disconnect every external peripheral on your PC so that only your mouse and keyboard are attached. (this also goes for any network connections)
Go in to your BIOS and reset it. You may also want to clear your CMOS by moving the jumpers on your motherboard (see your MB manual for that).
Perhaps the keyboard itself is part of the problem; try using a different one. Hint: if you can't even enter your BIOS, then that's a good sign your keyboard is either faulty or is not fully connected.
Try using a new hard drive (as in brand new).
Remove all cables to your hard drive and reinstall them. This may not sound like much, but in a recent install of XP on my wife's system, it took hours to format the drive to NTFS when it normally only takes 30-40 minutes. The XP installation was also bonkered as well. I disconnected all the cables and reattached them and it worked the next time up.
I have installed XP so many times that I can't even use the original activation code that came with it and I have to call M$ to say "please can I activate this flawed OS?". Each time I install XP (or even Office), it is slightly different each time.
