Create a LAN connecting Tablets - NOT connected to the internet

Would like to know if it is possible and how to create a local network of tablets that IS NOT connected to the internet?
Goal is to be able to "network" in the minivan during road trips (12 hour). So, if kids have a tablet each (3), and dad has a tablet - is it possible to create a network where dad is a server or host to the other 3 so that could start a movie or game on the "server" that the other tablets could see, or join in a multiplayer game?

Any WIFI router that can run on 12VDC would provide WIFI and DHCP to allow the tablets to connect to the WIFI. You would have to look at specific games or apps to determine if they could work without the larger internet connection.

Even many home routers use 12VDC. Just need to look at the specs closely or ask questions. Find something used on E-Bay.
