create data info when burning music CD

I can burn a music CD or rip songs from a site to a CD but I'm missing the data, song titles and artist name the music is fine. When playing in my car the titles show as; track1, track2, etc. with no artist name.

To get all the data to show what file extension (format) should be used and how do I accomplish this?

when you rip music cd from Microsoft media player you can tell it to download track data.
