Creating a new character's name

I always seem to get stuck agonizing over what name I should pick for a
new character. I kind of wonder what point there is in not letting names
be freely changeable with the advent of Trammel. I guess there's no
reason other than EA's greed now. Anyhow, I've been thinking about
creating a character for that new 6th slot on my main account. Decisions,
decisions. :)

I dunno. I think we have been missing something not seeing the
PiMp I OwNz J00Z folks running around anymore.

You might consider something nostalgic like that. :)

Hey, give me a little credit. I choose "L33t Kid Jesus". ;PPP

Actually I haven't yet decided. When I finished raising my last existing
character to GL status then I will create the new one. For some reason I
started getting serious lag bubbles tonight around 1am so I just went
around making runes for the new character to have. It's weird to
experience lag again after having virtually none for the last couple
years.

Since coming back to UO I've taken to 2 ways of naming my characters.

My characters were named:
1) using lesser-known, but relevant Tolkien names; &;
2) using relelvant Welsh word(s).
3*) as the "sons" of a deity I liked from, (in this case Norse), mythology.

Cheers,
Mark.

hehe, this is a hard one. I used to choose F. Zappa songnames in the
past, but the last years I have used Ozric tentacle songnames (they have
some very cool songnames, at least in my ears so...🙂)
here are some Ozric suggestions for you

Pixel Dream
Astro Cortex
Oghabe
Myriapod
Vibuhtu
Erpland
Cha'i
Holohedron
Pteranodon
Thight Spin
..

Along those lines you might consider something from the early Pink
Floyd song selections like

Several small furry creatures grooving in a cave with a Pict.

Yes, it was the name of a song.... but it might be a little too long
for a name. :) You might have to truncate it to Furry Pict. :)

I do genealogy in my spare time, so I go back to the 15 or 1600's and find
a name I like. Its easy for female names, but male names are usually John,
Benjamin, or Richard, unless I am looking at my husband's chart, and then
I find Archibald, Peter, Andrew or Cornelius. Genealogy has been a good
source for names for me. *grin*

I kind of like having "real" names rather than picking something some fiction
writer made up.

Yeah, that's usually what I do. I was looking at Welsh names and more
obscure names from Greek mythology. We'll see. I still have today to
think about it.

ROFL! On one shard I don't play much I have a guy named Eugene who
carries a little axe. 😛

My S.O. plays a lot, probably 10 times what I do. Other night I am
watching HBO and she is playing 'PvP test 25' or sumtin. All of a sudden
she bursts out laughing and can't stop. I says "What's so funny?" She
says "I just named my character a really funny name!" I says "And what
would that be?" She says "Pecker Pucker!"

I think they made a movie called "Sleeping with the Enemy" but it
probably has nothing to do with, me, my S.O., and UO. Kind of
illustrates what I am trying to say anyway. The game is evolving and
lots of people love the direction it is going including my S.O. Problem
is it is evolving right out from underneath me. I no longer seem to be
part of the target market.

Where does Sephiroth come from? Sorry if that's extremely ignorant... and
Cloud? There was such a character in the Saga of the Exiles by Julian May,
but otherwise it seems a reasonable name?

With you on Elrond, Arwen etc...

I use the following template:

For male chars:

Vowel consonant vowel consonant vowel consonant.

For the girls:

Consonant vowel consonant vowel consonant vowel.

So, male names: Amaron, Eradin, Ebaron, Imidan

Female names: Melori, Sonara, Linura, Paline.

Always works for me...

I too am sick to death of the LOTR masses - there were enough Gandalfs
before, but now its ridiculous... :-(

Cobol and Vaxes are not mythology! I have sailed further than anyone else
