Hi,

I have noticed while selecting 'Numeric list', another popup window was listed to me asking me to enter 'starting number', then when typing in '1', this in screen shot below was typed to me

L8CJl1.jpg

However, since I need to have numeric list from 1 to 5. So, I had to manully write five times of the three characters shown in the screen shot below after what is in this 'screen shot above' to get numeric list of 1, 2., 3, 4, 5 (as shown below).

So, how could a user know that he should type five times of the three characters of what is shown in the screen shot below after what is in screen shot above to get that numeric list?

Solution
want to find all your threads where you posted images? look through the list of all the posts you've made as that is about the only way. there is no search feature to just return posts that have had images added. however given that the links to images no longer seem to work all you will get is the text.

http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/all.html?author=a+cooperator
clicking the BB button at the bottom of your posts will show you the code so you can tell if you had an image added or not as it will show the code for it.

as far as accessing your images, we have no control over that. that is between you and imageshack. unless you fix all the links and rehost the images they will...

Thanks a lot,
1- Yes, but that app is named with Imgur(MyImgur) which means it is an Imgur-authorized app. Even if not, I think each new login to that app will require to get a new PIN would be very inconvenient.

2- As user stated it clear before "a direct link to images generally ends in the image extension and when used the only thing displayed on the page will be the image"
What difference is there between 'Image link' and 'Direct link' given after uploading an image via Imqur desktop app? Once I uploaded an image with MyIgure Desktop app, then I got multi-links for the uploaded image: "Copy image link", "Copy Direct link". However, I was expecting that 'Copy Image link' will be direct link as well as "Copy direct link" . However, the 'Copy direct link' let only the image displayed here after inserting into Toms image link thing . However, inserting the 'Copy image link' into Toms image link thing didn't let anything be shown.

MyImgur is a third party application. Imgur doesn't have any official desktop applications, only mobile ones.

One of them takes you to a page on Imgur that has the image on it. The other is a link to the image itself. I don't recall which is which, just use the one that works.

Thanks a lot,

I think as "Senior Moderator" said
that a direct link will almost always end in the image extension - .jpg, .png, .gif etc, and should have only a plain background around the image (this is generated by the browser. If it has text/other icons on the screen, ends in .html or has no extension, it's not direct.

Also as ' said
a direct link to images generally ends in the image extension and when used the only thing displayed on the page will be the image

I am now confused with 'copy Imgur picture link' and 'copy direct link' options given after uploading an image via MyImqur desktop app. What difference is there between 'Imgur picture link' and 'Direct link' given after uploading an image via Imqur desktop app? Once I uploaded an image with MyIgure Desktop app, then I got multi-links for the uploaded image: "Copy image link", "Copy Direct link". However, I was expecting that both 'Copy Image link' and 'Copy direct link' will give me a direct link. However, I found out that inserting the 'Copy direct link' into Toms image link thing let only the image displayed here . However, inserting the 'Copy image link' into Toms image link thing didn't let anything be shown at all. Even if I inserted it into Toms link thing, then it was only link redirecting a user to the web-based Imgur.

Why were you expecting this? There is no point having two links that point to the same thing. They both serve a different purpose. Use the one that works for what you are trying to do and stop overthinking things. You are making something complicated when it doesn't need to be.

Could you please understand me:
1- I am familiar with the direct link and non-direct link for an image sever a different purpose. However, both of them end up with showing an image hosted on a hosting service. The only difference is that 'direct link' should be inserted into Tom's image link thing to get image directly displayed here. However, non-direct link should be inserted into Tom's link thing, which will redirect a user to an image on a hosting server.

2- When copying a direct link or a non-direct link for an image, then I can have 'http://' as a part of URL, and when I try to insert any of those links into Tom's link thing, I ended up with two of 'http://', of which is for Tom's link thing, and the other one is for image link(direct or non direct link).
So, you recommend that I should only copy the url of direct link and non direct without copying 'http://', and then insert it into Tom's link thing.
Here are examples( I added spaces after only to let the full url shown, so you can see there are two 'http://'), you will see there are two 'url', the final one is, I think, is for Tom's link thing, however, the first one is a part of url copied from MyIgure desktop app.

3- As long as direct link and non-direct link has the same url, except that the direct link has an extension. So, I can manually add an extension for non-direct link and it will be a direct link.

So, no matter if the link gotten is direct or non direct, I can let non direct link be direct link by manually adding extension to it. An example, I have tried clicking on 'BB' get that url of the non direct link of the image didn't let image shown shown, and added 'jpg' to it. And then inserted it into Toms image link thing. So, the image is shown well. If this will apply for all hosting service(non direct link can be direct link by manually adding extension to it, it would be highly good)

The second "http://" is just placeholder text for what will be displayed on the page. It would make sense to default to the link rather than just "http://", but it doesn't, so we'll just need to deal with it. If you want something else to show then replace the second "http://" with other text. Eg.

My image

Would be displayed as My image

If you just want the displayed text to be the same as the link then don't use the link button at all and just paste the link directly into your post like this: http://imgur.com/NNqhbyt

No. A direct link specifies an image file on the image host's server(s). A link to a page containing an image is just a link to a page - your browser and our webservers have no way to know that any one image is more important. The link just specifies an HTML page on an image host's server(s) - somewhere in that HTML page there will be the direct link to the actual image.

3- As long as direct link and non-direct link has the same url, except that the direct link has an extension. So, I can manually add an extension for non-direct link and it will be a direct link.

In some cases, yes, in others, no. Imgur is pretty good, but you still need to guess whether it's PNG, JPG, GIF etc. For imgur, you also need to add "i." to the start of the link, and it obviously doesn't work on albums. It depends on how they set up their systems. The 'prntscr' one you linked earlier has no relation.

Thanks a lot,
Although we went further from the the original topic, I would like to end what we have begun.
1- No, for MyIgure desktop app, it doesn't need me to add 'i' to the start of the link

For example, if I inserted this link below into Tom's image link thing, then I will get only the image displayed here.

"direct link" gotten from 'Copy direct link' in MyIgur app.
http://i.imgur.com/NNqhbyt.jpg

Also, if I added 'jpg' to this non direct link below "imgur picture link' without adding 'i' to the start of the link, and insert that into Tom's image ink thing, I will also get only the image displayed here.

"Imgur picture link" gotten from 'Copy Imgur picture link' in MyIgur app.

2- However, with respect to 'prntscr' ("web-based Ligthshot"), and LightShot desktop app, the matter is completely difference I think since there is no non-direct link which can be gotten within the Web-base LightShot (prntscr) . However, all we can get is direct link by displaying an image, and click ;right click', and then 'copy link location' . the non-direct link can only be gotten from the LightShot desktop app. However, the non-direct link gotten from desktop app doesn't match the direct link gotten from web-based Ligthshot(prntscr). This is since that the image address(direct link) is hosting into "imgur.com, and the image link(non direct link) is hosting into prntscr.com. I think LightShot and Prntscr are using Imgur rather than paying for their own hosting infrastructure - they're just putting a wrapper around the images. (i.e. I think that they don't have their own image-hosting server on the prntscr.com. However, they host their customers' accounts images into the the 3rd-party image-hosting service(Imgur )?)

I cite this:
- This is an image captured and uploaded by LightShot desktop app, so, I got a non direct link once it was uploaded
http://prntscr.com/abamae
- to get the direct link of the image, I should visit prntscr.com, and then 'display image, after that, right click on it, and finally, copy link location
http://i.imgur.com/eHEPNfL.png
-So, adding 'png' to the non direct link will not work at all since the host's server of the image's non-direct link is different than the host's server of the image's direct link.

This is the direct link after inserting it into Tom's image link thing. I got only the image displayed here:::

eHEPNfL.png

This is the non-direct link after adding '.png' into its end, and inserting it into Tom's image link thing. However, there is no image displayed at all::

This topic was discussed with two topics, one of which about numeric list, which was marked as solved by me, and the other one is about direct and non direct link, which is still not marked as answered.
So, Could you please Someone Somewhere, mark or select this answer of yours below March 3, 2016 8:18:57 PM as the second best answer/solution for my question about 'Direct link and 'non-direct link' with keeping the first answer marked as the answer of my other question.
