hi,

I own the following system:
P3-600 (100 mhz) (512 kb cache not coppermine)
128mb 100 mhz sdram
Asus pcb 2000 i820 (yeah i know it`s an i820)
17 gb (ata 66) maxtor hd and 4 gb maxtor hd
Pioneer 6x DVD and Hp rewiter 8x/4x/32x

And am having some problems that may be graphics baord related. I have to clock my memory to 75 mhz to have my system run stabily.
That is if i use the Geforce board. If i install another graphics board (ie a voodoo banshee) there is no problem whatsoever. i have treid updating the bios of both my mb as my geforce but the problem remains.
ASus wont help me and creative blames the mb. Can anyone please help me with this as i dont know what to do !?!?

Geforce cards do not like to share their IRQ. Check that in Device Manager.
Is the fan on the Geforce board working properly? I have seen some posts talking about faulty fans and overheating problems. Turning down the clock speed is a workaround for overheating chips so this may be your problem. Open your case and look at the fan while the computer is running. Is the fan spinning and does it spin in the right direction?

i have checkaed my fan and it works the way it should in both sitautions (75 and 100 mhz). In fact when my pc freezes it does not stop (the fan). Also it is not a matter of supplied power either as i have switched powersuplies and it does not resolve the issue. It has to be the combination of the graphics card and the MB that doesnt work. My guess is that it has to do with the MTH .. As we know intel goofed it up a bit, but since asus is not willing to replace the mb and i dont have the money right now to do so myself. Also soem of myt friends tell me there are known incompatibiltries between ASUS MB em Creative Geforce 256 cards. I have not seen any written eviddence on this however.
Can soemone please help me ?

I have got the same creative geforce as you and seem to be haveing the same problems. However, I have a gigabyte 6bxe motherboard 440BX chipset with pII. I have seen the card running fine on a Aopen motherboard with the same chipset.
I have also tryed my friends creative gefore 2 ultra in my machine and that works fine. So its not just Asus MB that have a problem with the geforce. I notice that you have patched the bios for your card. Could you tell me where you got the bios patch from because I have tried Nvidia and creative and couldn't find it.
Sorry that I have no advice to offer being in the same boat as yourself.

Which Motherboard? Do you mean P3C 2000?
The only other ideas I have are in the BIOS settings. Ones to check:
Graphics Window Size
Video Memory Cache Mode
VGA BIOS Sequence
AGP Fast Write
I may also mean you have a defective video card. Can you exchange it?

The patch was in one of the updates i d/l from www.hastec.nl. This is a dutch site. Yuo can also look at creative site offcourse. Read the documention file included and i think you will fid that there is a file yuo should run, after you have started your p.c. in native DOS! But i m not sure as it was a while back ..

What should i change in the bios settings ?
Graphics Window Size ? (dont know .. will look it up)
Video Memory Cache Mode is disabled
VGA BIOS Sequence AGP first
AGP Fast Write (this i think is a windows setting i.e. a setting yuo can change in the registry (im not sure thow)

Anyway any help is appreciated. Also i tried my card in a bx motherbaord (dfi) and it worked like a charm, i could leave my memory clock at 100 mhz without any problems.

puzzled as always..

Graphics Window Size should be half your system's RAM
Video Memory Cache Mode [UC]
VGA BIOS Sequence [AGP/PCI]
AGP Fast Write [disabled] this is in some of the newer BIOS.

The only other thought I have is that the power supply may not be getting enough power out to your system to handle the Video card at 100MHz. The power supply should be at least 250W.

James,

i will tryout your suggestions dont know what the settings are right now, so i will have to check. Unfortunately its not the power supply as on my DFI BX mb the card runs at 100mhz without problems. utilizing the same powersupply..

will let you know if changing the settings worked..

Thow i gotta say my card performs wel even at 75 mhz.. Also can anyone tell me what the impact should be by running yuor internal memory at 75 mhz instead of the normal 100mhz it should.
I cant run a benchmarker unfortunately as my pc freezes everytime.
Should there be a huge difference ?

Different motherboards distribute and manage power differently. Just because the power supply works with one motherboard and configuration, doesn't mean it will be enough for a different moterboard and configuration. This may not be the cause but it is something to consider.

Also, there should be a significant difference in benchmark results between 75MHz and 100MHz. It may not be significant subjectively in how fast you system is--it is hard to tell the difference between 1.5 and 2 seconds to perform a task even though this is a 25% difference.

well, it is not a prob. of i820 but the MTH issue.
the Asus xxx2000 series (p3c2000, cuc2000...) phased out.

what to do ?! change with a nice slot1 mb. 🙁
(440BX is good.)
