[SOLVED] Creative Soundblaster G6 optical and USB?

Recently I've been looking into getting the creative soundblaster g6. However I'm wondering, if it is possible, to run it both optical and by USB because my motherboard has a optical output but no input.
I am only wondering about this because I've heard that it improves quality greatly if you use the optical version.

There should be no difference in quality between optical and USB - both digital signal, with processing done in the G6 and PC.
