[SOLVED] Cross compatibility for PCI-E 16x

I have an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard with a PCI-E 3.0 connection. Im thinking about buying an RTX 3080 which says it is PCI-E 4.0.

If i buy it will it work in my PCI-E 3.0 motherboard?

PCIe is forwards and backwards compatible. However, it'll only operate at the speed of the slowest side or in this case, it'll only operate in PCIe 3.0 speeds. Not that it really matters.
