cross mark on volume in task bar

sounds are disabled. while troublshooting it says your driver up to date. Tried tweaks on google. Even, After changing "OS" and installing drivers, cross mark on volume bar not gone. plugged in speakers and headphones are not working. in Sound/'Speakers' not present. what to do?
 
Solution
Right click on that speaker icon, then select playback devices.
If your device isn't listed, like I beleive it won't, then right click in the 'no audio devices found' area and select show disabled devices.
The device should now show up, rt click on it and select Enable.
