I already have one radeon 7950 with a 500 watt psu. I am thinking a purchasing another 7950 and upgrading my psu to crossfire them. Is it worth it though? I have a 4670k i5 not overclocked with 8gb 1333mghz RAM. My system runs fine and plays everything I want but I have the itch to upgrade.

Crossfire is fine as long as your motherboard supports it. But I really would suggest getting a gtx 970 if you really want to upgrade. Crossfire also has to tendency to be unstable, but I think the new drivers have fixed that issue. Personally, I only run with one card to insure stability and compatibility with games. Keep in mind, not all games support crossfire. This is also true for sli configs.

I have a MSI Z87-G45 Gaming board with 3 PCIe slots.
