Crossfire disables as soon as I press apply

Crossfire disables as soon as I press apply in CCC. I have just reinstalled my system and downloaded the latest version of my GFX drivers. I select the crossfire tab in CCC choose the enable circle and press apply. Straight away the disable circle is highlighted and crossfire is not working. I have check the bridge cable is working by removing it, when I do that the crossfire option is greyed out, hoping for a simple fix, will give more details tomorrow if needed.
