Crossfire impulse buy.

Well I picked up another Gigabyte 7950 on ebay cheap for $120. I checked the serial number and it was manufactured the same year and week as my first card. So the 7950 should come stock at 1000 mhz. Weather are not it was used for mining don't know but comes in the original box. So I'm guessing he was the first owner but was most likely mined with since it was purchased on ebay. I was trying to avoid a card used for mining but I think 80% of cards are ebay are. I have the power supply/motherboard and case with excellent cooling for crossfire. But has crossfire improved at all? I only bought It to use on a couple of games and I'm aware it's not supported by all my games. I told myself I'll play around with it and if it's a disaster and the card checks out okay. I'll just cut my losses and sell it to one of my friends cheap. What do you guys think haven't gotten the card yet but been having some buyer's regret since I only play at 1080P. lol

Would be a good time to clean and repaste both GPU coolers imo.

Yes, it would be. Mining can dry up that thermal compound relatively quickly. As for Crossfire, I feel confident saying you will not be disappointed. I did the same thing - I impulse bought my second 270X - to find that I won the lottery twice! 😀

I have the thermal compound just never done it with a GPU heat sink before. I'm seems like it shouldn't be a problem though. Thanks never thought about the paste drying up.

Well I got the card. I can tell it's had a hard life needing a cleaning desperately. I'm getting almost a tar like substance from the fans. I figure it will take 4 hours just to clean the card. But it works scored 6279 on 3DMark. My card scored 6284 so pretty much the same score. Temps don't seem bad so far haven't run that long. It runs slightly hotter then my first card but well within normal range. Regardless I will be replacing the thermal paste but I don't have thermal pads yet. I ordered them but they will take awhile to get to me. Is it okay if I just reuse the thermal pads on the card till I get replacements?

Yes. You should be fine. What is that score? Fire Strike? Graphics Score? What is it?

Well restoration of the ebay mining card is complete! 🙂 Thermal was flaking off, it was very dry. Replaced with good quality thermal compound. Pads were okay so reused them. Card took about 2 1/2 hours to clean. 3D mark scores equal to my first store bought card.

Total Ebay card scored 6258 on second try around the same score as my store bought card. Card had been brought back to life. Was exposed to some heat but still functions properly and GPU shines like a mirror.

crossfire total 9357, graphics 13788, physics 7890, combine 2989. The only problem I'm having is under load the middle fan is making noise can I spray some WD40 on it? It sounds like my old bedroom fan. NVM Im going to use sewing machine oil.
