Crossfire PSU Selection

So I'm planning on doing crossfire r9 290's for the future in my build. Right now i only have one but im trying to plan ahead.

other relevant specs are
CPU i5 4670k
Cooler Swiftech H220x aio

would an 850w bronze or gold corsair do or would i need more total wattage?

RealHardtechx recommends a minimum 1000 watts for a dual 290/290X setup.

ive heard elsewhere that 850w-950w can work as well

is that assuming full load 100% use doing synthetic benchmarks or a real gaming/editing work load

That leaves headroom for overclocking and a less than stellar power supply but in general it's a very good list to follow. I can't think of an 850w unit I would want to stress that much and 900-950w units are extremely uncommon making 1000 watts the best choice.

Use GTX 970s. You only need 700 watts for 2 of them and you get the same performance.

ok that makes sense, and i already have one of the 290's so ill probably stick with that, just bite the bullet on the price of a higher wattage psu

EVGA has a $20 promo right now on a good one.

The SuperFlower made 1000w G2 has a 10 year warranty and is only $149 after rebate. Pretty great deal for a tier 1 power supply of that wattage.
