CrossFire Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X 4GB

Is a CoolerMaster V850 able to run 2 sapphire R9 290X Tri-X in CrossFire ?

Is there anything i have to look out for if im going to crossfire these cards ? For eg. temp?

What is the rest of your systems specs? The cards under full load will draw about 600w, the cooler master v850 is a solid psu so it should be ok depending on the rest of your system.

I run cf 290x's tri-x's, and they have great coolers, just make sure your case has descent airflow and you shouldn't have a issue with heat.

not sure to go gtx 980 or cf r9 290x

With that system you will be fine with the v850, my system while gaming pulls about 600-700w. What res are you running?

Probably using a BenQ rl2755hm at the moment but will be upgrading to dual screen 1440p soon when my budget allows it.

But would you recommend a GTX 980 or R9 290X CF?

I will be playing Witcher 3, Black Ops 2, GTA V, League of Legends and DoTA. Hoping to run at max setting at at least 60 fps with the first 3 games. I do know that League and DoTA are not graphically taxing so I'm more concern about the other games when they are release.

I would go cf 290x's personally, the only issue is with new releases you don't usually get cf support right at launch, but a single 290x is still a great gpu till cf works or it could work from the get go you never know.

Like I said the a single 290x isn't as good as a single 980 when cf isn't working but the 980 does not destroy it http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1059?vs=1351 and when cf is working you will have much better performance than a single 980.

The 980 is a good card put in my opinion it is not worth it's price tag, when you compare the 970 to the 980 I don't see the extra $250+ worth of performance.

So CF R9 290X is your opinion ? I'm also leaning very much to the CF R9 290X side.
The only concern i have is the heat output. I heard from some sources the heat output is ridiculous. Also I'm pretty scared of the bugs from CF-ing the readon as I read alot of post stating that AMD drivers are not exactly the best when it comes to fixing the bugs.

Have you any issue playing games when CF ?

Like I said the only time I really run into issues is if I buy at game release, most recent being dying light but it was actually fixed and running really well with a game update and not a driver, I was getting great scaling withour even having a cf profile. It just hit and miss, but realistically I game at 4k so having cf working is like top priority or I have to drop the res or deal with lower fps, at 1080 one 290x does really well, it trades blows with a 970. When you get your duel 1440p monitors the cf 290x will be nice for pushing that pixel count.

As for heat the tri-x's are what I run and they do very well for staying cool in cf. Like with any multigpu setup you are going to want good airflow, I have a corsair air540 case and keep great temps. I'm not too sure why everyone goes on about amd drivers (Most people that do don't own amd gpu's) I have had next to no major problems with amd drivers since I started using them.

Alright guess I'm going for CF of the R9 290X since its almost priced the same as a GTX 980 but costing a tiny bit more 😀
