Crossfire vs. New card?

I'm going to upgrade my system, and isn't sure if i should buy another Asus matrix HD7970 Platinium, and go crossfire.
Or a ASUS R9290-4GD5 - 4GB

I'd get a second HD 7970 or an R9 280X for CrossFire if your motherboard and PSU can handle it.

If you CAN, you want to rid yourself of multi-GPU setups.
It's always best to go with one amazing card, than 2 less-than-amazing cards.

Go with the Xfire setup, it will be hard if not impossible to find a single card (note: single gpu cards) to best xfire 7970s (or 7970 and 280x).

Since that card is 3GB and the 290 isn't 2x the performance, you will be way better off performance wise going with another 7970 crossfire.

You can probably find one used for a good price on ebay or craigslist, since so many people are offloading their bitcoin cards these days. With that, it should save you a bundle of cash as well.

No, the 7970 can only be CrossFired with cards that use the same architecture, the HD 7950, R9 280, and the R9 280X.

Not sure of the name of the psu, but it's a 750W (Just tell if you need the specific name)
The Motherboard is a GA-970A-D3.

The name of the PSU would help. That motherboard only supports CF in PCI-E 2.0 x16 + x4 mode, so getting the R9 290 might make more sense.

It supports CrossFire, but it might cause a bit of a bottleneck.
