Crossfire with 380x worthwhile?

I know there are a couple threads about this, however my situation is somewhat different, I recieved a 380x as a gift for a job I did. Not only can I not return it because the 30 days are over, but I wouldn't want to sadden the gift giver.

Since I was looking to upgrade from a 270x (Which I gave to my girlfriend) this card came right on time. However, I'd like to get just a little more power from my PC. That being said, would crossfire be worthwhile? It's my understanding that any other R9 can be crossfired (meaning I don't necessarily need another 380x).

I am running:
cpu: fx8320 OCed to 4.7
mobo: GA-990FX-gaming from Gigabyte
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ Gold
GPU: Sapphire R9 380x NITRO

Solution
No, the 270x is not the same GPU as the 380x and you can't crossfire them. You can Crossfire a 285 with a 380 and that's it. There is no 2-series equivalent to a 380x so the only card you can Crossfire one with is a 380x.

It is sometimes possible but not supported to crossfire two cards with similar GPU models if one is a cut-down version of the other. The 270x and 380x are totally different designs so this is not possible at all.
I do not believe the 200 series is compatible with the 300 series gpus. So in the end I do not believe you can Crossfire those cards.

If you could, I believe one card is slowed to the slowest card in your crossfire so you will get the equivalent of 2 270x GPUs.

There are some debates on this however. Read this...

If it works let us know, because I am curious.

[Edit]

Rob beat me to it. 😛

380x should be able to crossfire with the 380.

He said he gave his 270X away to his girlfriend... He didn't ask about crossfiring wth a 270X.

True he did not say that he was going to use a 270x, just that he was not married to a second 380x. So as long as he keeps the GPUs in the family of the 300s then he should be fine.

I missed understood the post on first read too. Thanks for correcting us, SMB.

AMD's site specifcally states that only a 380x can be crossfired to a 380x, which means that if it does happen to work it's not supported. As I mentioned above.
