Edit: it's an X470 board.
There are two m.2 slots on the title motherboard.
The one below the graphics card works on mine. The one below doesn't.
I have two m.2 drives.
They both work on the bottom slot.
They both do not work on the top slot.
There's a heat sink that goes on top of the m.2 drive on the top slot.

After taking the heat sink off to do the drive swapping. I realized on the underside there was tape saying "remove".
I really don't see how not removing the damn tape would destroy the slot.

Thoughts? Has anyone else experienced a dead m.2 slot?

I'm definitely not keen on going through the whole return process for m.2 slot. But I paid almost $500 aud for this board. Bit conflicted

Solution
What M.2 SSD's? The top slot only supports PCIE M.2 SSD's, a SATA M.2 drive will not work in the top slot only the bottom. That is likely your issue. Page 1-25 in your manual.

Yeah it's the same form factor it will fit fine it just wont work. You certainly didn't damage the slot by putting a SATA M.2 drive in it, the slot just does not support the SATA interface.
