crossover cable file transfer

I use crossover cable to transfer file from laptop to my Desktop as my laptop does not have CD-RW. Both use Windows XP with personal setup.
When I use the Acer laptop ( mean "real" laptop), I can setup the neighbourhood network easily and did the transfer works.However, now I use the Desknote (one type of desktop replecement), I can not do the transfer. The neibourghhood is setup but when I click to the other computer, it says that it is accessible.
I use LAN port and Internet works fine for both. What is the solution for this.

What operating systems and system specs do you have for the computers you are trying to transfer between. We'll need both sides in order to answer.

As I said I use XP Pro. One is AMD 1.9+ and the other is Celeron 1.7 G.
