Hello! This is my first time posting here, I apologize if this isn't the exact forum I should be posting in.

But anywho, I recently just got a new tower and I wanted to ftp to my original xbox again so i plugged in my crossover cable to both the console and the computer and go to Network and Sharing Center and there's no new networks that come up?

I have Windows 10 Pro x64

I found a similar topic on this site but it wasn't the same OS and it was someone trying to transfer between 2 computers. Could anyone help me out? I'd appreciate it so much. I've been googling for nearly 2 hours.

Solution

The Xbox is probably set up for automatic addressing via DHCP, so your PC won't find it unless both are set for IP addresses in the same subnet. You might try connecting both to a router instead and use FTP once you discover the Xbox IP, or set it for a static IP address if needed.

Edit: You can just go to the Xbox console and set a static IP address there to one in the same subnet...

I would agree with connecting them via a router just to make things simpler...the router does not even have to be connected to the internet.

You really should toss any cross over cables you have in the trash. All modern equipment can negotiate that feature on regular cables. The concept of crossover does not even really exist on ports that are running gigbit. It actually transmits and receives on all 4 pair on both ends at the same time. Almost magic that the ethernet chips can accomplish that.
