I was given a 17 inch crt and the cable is bad. I have to twist it in order to get a picture and the color is messed up depending on which way you twist the cable i.e missing green or blue, etc. Anyone know if there is a way for me to fix it or do i need to find a monitor repair shop? My idea is, that i could take another cable off of another monitor and swap them out.

Yes, you can do that. If the cable comes from the same brand of monitor (or a different brand manufactured by the same company) you might end up having the same ends as well! Otherwise it's time to get out the multimeter and find out which wires lead where!
