Crucial Ballistix Ram fails, AGAIN.

Hi All,

I bought a gig of Crucial Ballistix RAM a few months ago for use in my Athlon socket 939 system. After a month of iwning it, my OS became corrupted. It turned out it was because of insufficient voltage. I changed the voltage, and everything was fine. Mem test went with no errors, no software corruption of any kind, everything was great.

Until tonight. I noticed a couple of my programs seemed slower in responding. I decided to run mem test, and sure enough I got dozens of erros in a matter of minutes. I looked at my memory configuration, and everything was in line with Crucials specs.

I tried a variety of cas latencies, and nothing has worked so far. I've read around, and many people have reported problems with this particular brand of ram.

I really don't want to lose all my data, again. And, I hate to have send this back because that means no pc for awhile. I'm hoping someone, somewhere has an idea of how I can fix this with a settings change or something.

Assuming you have a good power supply and a stable 3.3v rail at 3.2v or higher, you'd better send those sticks back. Check with ASUS first so you don't get blamed for using memory not on their list. And remember, the Crucial warranty is only good for the original owner, which of course I hope you are.

Cybercraig, what is a rail?

Hey, I bought a new mboard--- a K8M Neo-V, and suddenly my RAM becomes faulty (pc always urges me to run safe mode)

is it possible that a motherboard could destroy RAM?

I have a gig of the exact memory 2x I have had to send it back. Just dies which angers me so since I have yet to rehook up the water cooling so I can overclock.

Yes, a motherboard can destroy ram. I just had a Chaintech blow and take a stick of OCZ with it. A bad power supply can too. Check the Vdimm and timings in BIOS and make sure they comply. Also, A64 boards are finnicky about which slots will support double-sided sticks. Make sure they are in the right slots.

As Cyberccraig already said, yes. I had a batch of Asus boards that would chew up ram on occasion(their first AMD 761 boards, always ran voltage high to dimms, if you tried to run your ddr actually at 133mhz you'd get bsod's, windows wouldn't install right, and eventually ram would go bad. Had 4-5 of them in the office, think average setup required me to run atg 127mhz instead of full 133mhz if I wanted a stable system).

Sometimes if its not the board your bios could not be updated or 32 bit operating system which your bios or ram might not support so try update the bios or Os but if it doesn't work then replace the motherboard haha
