Hello!

I'm building my first rig and pondering RAM choices. I'm leaning towards Crucial Ballistix Tracer w/ LEDs - especially since NewEgg has 10% off Ballistix today as their daily Black Friday deal.

Two models I'm looking at :

Type A : 1333 Clock , 7ms CAS latency
Type B : 1600 Clock , 8ms CAS latency

Price difference is negligible - $5 difference. Do you take Type A or B?

I'm leaning A but I'm interested in others' opinions.

Many thanks <bow>

Anyone who answers this w/o knowing your MOBO is a fool. So what MOBO do you have?

In general, as Speed increased so does CAS latency. Also it's {ns -> nanoseconds billionth of a second}

The RAM has to be verified as 'compatible' with your MOBO...hence the Q b4 A.

Normally you'd be correct but in this case looking at the 2 products the 1600 CAS 8's are $5 cheaper and are most likely the same exact modules just binned differently so the choice really doesn't make much difference ! - I'd go with the $5 savings since they are in reality probably the exact same modules just being sold under 2 different product numbers and then either run them at 1333 Cas7 or 1600 Cas8 depending on the system !

Normally & Always - You need to know the MOBO to VERIFY that the RAM and/or IC are indeed compatible.

^You nor I even -> 1. Know if the RAM is compatible, 2. If the MOBO + CPU supports 1600 MHz. So telling the OP 'duh okay...yeah sure...' - is ________ {insert word}.

Point taken Jaquith, sorry I didn't include that information.

I don't physically own the motherboard yet, but as of now I'm considering either the ASUS Sabretooth X58 or if I decide to get a little pricier a Rampage III Gene or Formula. Either of these will support a 1600 clock and are triple channel.

For any of the ASUS MOBO's {I've posted & checked all you listed many times}:
