I need a ssd for my new rig and i am trying to decide between these 2 drives. I did have the 840 evo but had just found out that it had a slow down problem and was wondering if the 850 has the same problem. Both of these drives will be the 250gb versions. Which one would be safer to go with?

Have a look at Anandtech's conclusion to their very thorough review of the BX100: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9144/crucial-bx100-120gb-250gb-500gb-1tb-ssd-review/12
There's a paragraph directly discussing the 850EVO vs BX100.

They suggest that the 850 EVO is very slightly quicker, but the BX100 is extremely power efficient.

If you can get them for the same price I'd suggest the Samsung probably edges it, but Crucial have a solid reputation too, and I wouldn't be spending more on the Samsung myself. The BX100 is a very solid drive by all accounts.

Yeah I had heard that there was a firmware update for the 840 but I also heard that it wasn't a complete fix. I'd hate to buy another ssd but I think using a different one would be better for me in the long run. As long as the 850 evo doesn't have the same problems (or any other problems) I think I'll just go ahead and get that one.
