Crucial Launching MX200, BX100 SSDs In Q1 2015

Nope. The BX100 has slightly better performance than the MX100 and is $10 cheaper. The MX200 is somewhere between the M500 and M550 in performance and priced right between them.

Anyone else just buy a 512GB MX100 a couple days ago?

No, but I bought a pair of 256GB MX100 a few weeks ago. I don't really care, these are more of the same, nothing new here other than something "new" to sell. :)

At least for my purposes, which is cheap mass storage.

They forget to mention about the mSata and M.2 versions of it too. Seems there is same performance for SATA/M.2 so they arent native PCI-E :(

I bought a couple of M550 128GB units recently for use in industrial UNIX-based systems,
an ideal fit since its one of the few models that has proper power loss protection. Both
worked perfectly.

That's very good IMO, if such a deal was available here I'd buy one for my HTPC, though I might get an X300 instead.

For some reason, not many places in the UK sell the M550.

So I'm trying to figure out how the BX100 120GB is anywhere near comparable to existing drives in the same price range / capacity. "We're not going for having the fastest drive." Yeah, no kidding! 185MBps Write speed and 43K IOPS. For $15 more I'll get a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB.
Or, for $20 LESS, I'll buy a MX550 128GB from Amazon ($49.99)

You're comparing a pre-release MSRP to a temporary sale price on Amazon. AT normal MSRP, the BX will be ~$20 less than the M550.

I guess I need to consider that these are just launch prices too.

We all do. I've noticed a lot of sales the last few weeks on most of Crucial's SSDs. Who knows, those sale prices may bring the regular street prices down to stay. That'd make SSD pricing interesting in the coming months.

Prices seem to have gone up somewhat in the UK post-new-year, which is annoying. Atm one of the most
appealing IMO is the Sandisk X300 256GB, but not many places sell the X300 line, so pricing competition
isn't that good.

Ian.

We won't know for certain until they get launched and thoroughly tested. Comparing the IOPS alone ( and assuming they're accurate, ) it looks like the BX100 will be a nice value drive while the MX200 hits the upper-mid-range level. Neither one will approach the M550 or Samsung 850, but they'll be cheaper.

I bought that mx100 512gb for $175 thinking it's probably still a little better than bx100, but I'll probably get the 1tb mx200 when it's available. Man I wish I'd caught that m550 deal! Do those come in 1tb?
