Hi.
I have been experiencing a problem with my Crucial M4 128gb SSD
This is the story:
First I got my pc ( DELL D830) into hybernation, when I woke up the pc from hibernation the pc froze completely, so I had to turn it off, and turn it on again.
when the bios loaded, then a message appeared that said" no drive detected". so i had to reboot again, but this time not even the screen lit up so I had to turn it off and take it to the Dell support center. They said to me that the MOBO had bricked up (specifically the video card).
But thats not the point, i can buy a new computer, what worries me is all the information i got on the disk. So I googl'd the problem and found out several things:
- Entering into hybernation with this SSD can ruin you computer

Also some people stated that they had this same problem and this was surpassed by connecting the SATA power cable for about 20 mins and then rebooting but with also the SATA data cable and it magically works. I have tried this 5 times and nothing works. Then tried with different ports , and other sata data cables and still, nothing.Note that this drive is 2.5 moths old and about 200 hours of usage so it is almost new. I am not worried about buying another drive but of the Data i have lost on the drive.
Any ideas to make the drive work and/or recover the data?
Will appreciate any ideas.

Solution

You should be able to just take the drive out of your computer and connect it to a new computer to retrieve the data. I find the support center's answer strange. Did you have an internal video chip or an added graphics card. If the mb bricked from the video than I would suspect you have video on the mb. If you don't and have an added card then that explanation is BS. A bad video card would stop you from booting but you put in a new video card not buy a new computer. If most of the components are dead that is most likely from a bad power supply not from going into hibernation mode.

All that being said Windows does not hibernate or sleep well. The hibernation file gets corrupted with repeated use needing a shutdown.

Like I said your data is most likely fine. You just need an operating computer to retrieve it and something to put it on.

I have already tried that, sorry that I did not mentioned it before. I tried to connect to an ATA/Atapi converter case, and also connecting it directly to the computer. Im beggining to think the SSD just died after 200 hours of usage

Thanks for the response

If thats the case it should be under warranty. I know that doesn't help with the data.
