CRUCIAL OR OCZ?

well i canceled my order on the egg because i was indecisive

I was looking at these ram

Crucial BALLISTIX

I would like a moderate oc with tight timings (cas of 3 with a little tweaking or so) i will buy 2 kits of the ram
I would be keeping on my computer to fold 24/7

My question is which is better for me the crucial or the ocz in the conditions i stated above

itll be paired with a q6600 and p35 ds3r

both are good, timings of the OCZ one is 4-4-4-15 , the crucial one is 4-4-4-12 ,
OCZ one has a nice heatsink , its a difficult choice, but i wuold go with OCZ one , (but if u go with crucial , u wont be sorry )

Always have and always will use Crucial. Heard too many conflicting stories about reliability for OCZ and yet no-one has a bad thing to say about Crucial.

Both work fine with Intel chipsets in general. OCZ has had trouble with Nvidia/ASUS/AM2 MB's, but they are working on it.

Theres nothing like Crucial's Ballistix DDR2 800 or 1066. Mine run at 1200MHz.

Well, the Crucial ones have tighter timings out of the box which is a good sign, plus mentioned above OCZ have had compatibility problems.

I'd go with Crucial personally.

Hi, you seem to know a little about RAM.
What do you think is the BEST DDR2 1066 money can buy? I want to upgrade my Asus P5B (p965) for the Yorkfield, Vista 64. I am willing to spend a lot just to get a 400+ Mhz bus @ CL4 and I don't want to spend hours screwing and increasing voltages just to make the system stable.
I gave up getting DDR2 800 CL4 RAM and expecting to actually get 400Mhz @ CL4.

For the recent prices for OCZ Ram, it's hard not to go with them.
Just bought 2x2G's of OCZ DDR2 6400 800's for a $100/each and there are two $40 MIRs on top of that. 60$ for 2Gigs - you can't be that.

Note: I'm running on an ASUS P5K-SE and the RAM is running fine.

I don't know anything about OCZ but I can say that the Crucial Ballistix kits you were looking at going with are the exact same ones I'm using in my p35 ds3r MB. I'm using 4x1gigs with Vista 64 and didn't have any issues plugging them all in and installing Vista. I found mine at zipzoomfly with a rebate they were $80ish for the 2x1gig kits.

I'm using the Crucial you have listed on three GA-P35_DQ6 mobos and they run at SPD timings no problem. They are also on the Gigabyte compatibility list, on their website. I don't know if the OCZ is, you should check.

The OCZ compatability problems are simply user error.

Bullcrap. Almost every time someone says "This motherboard is junk, I installed it in a new system and it wouldn't boot the first time because the motherboard didn't supply enough RAM voltage" the RAM in question is OCZ. User error in RAM settings doesn't even play into first boot.

BTW, RAM must be able to run at 1.80V in order to meet industry quality standards: It's OK to label some memory "800MHz CAS 4 2.10V" if it boots at lower settings (such as 667MHz CAS 5) using default 1.80V. It's not OK when RAM requires 1.90V simply to boot at it's default lower speed.

The OCZ compatability problems are simply user error. Ive used them on MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, and ecs AM2 and s775 with no issues other than having to set voltage manually, which is a mobo issue. Im actually using the old Revision 1's in my current c2d system and they overclock like mad.
You'll be happy with either brand.

The OCZ compatibility problems are well documented on their own forums site by their own employees. You might want to read up.
