hi everyone! I'm encountering a baffling issue with my PC and I could really use your experience & insight
  • My PC won't boot when I connect my Crucial P3 NVMe SSD.
  • I can't even access the BIOS; it gets stuck on a blank black screen.
  • When attempting to power it off using the case's button, it automatically turns back on after a few seconds.
  • Without the SSD, my PC boots and runs fine.

relevant hardware info:
  • Motherboard: ASRock B365M Pro4
  • SSD: Crucial P3 3.0 NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD
  • CPU(?): Intel I5-9400f
added CPU because apparently Intel's 9th gen line disables the m2_1 socket or something? (I know jack about computers)

not sure if this is true, just added it to be sure.

also can't try a different m2 port because there's only one on my board...

Really? Because I see two of them. I suggest reading pg 29-32 of your manual. I'll bet anything you are installing it on the M.2 under the GPU, try using the one above the GPU.

I'm not sure that's your problem however. Even with a SATA port disabled and no boot device on your system you should still power up and get to the bios. Any chance the drive is bad? Try using the correct port and see if you still have problems.

thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the late response.

after rereading the manual, I did in fact find the M2_1 slot and successfully installed the SSD there.

my PC did boot up, but now it's just stuck on the boot up screen (the one with the ASRock logo) and pressing any of the keybinds to try and open up BIOS doesn't work.

I haven't tried updating BIOS to 4.5.1 though, I'll try that after this

again, thank you!
