Hi all,
I've O/Ced a PIV 1.6 to 2.4 and run it for the last several years.
Great little performer. But after nearly three years, I am looking to
upgrade.

I believe you don't really see much GREAT change unless you can get
TWICE the 'power' (CPU speed, clock, etc) out of the upgrade.

I want to use AMD... like their style.
What dual core AMD (O/Ced of course) would give me twice the grunt of an
1.6 O/Ced to 2.4 -

DDR =1GB of whatever would be the best to O/C.
Many thanks.

An X2 3800.

X2 3800+. Should OC to about 2.5GHz or better.

OCZ Platinum Rev 2 or Crucial Ballistix. Both maintain tight timings at
close to DDR500 speeds.

I have been looking at the X2 3800+ on a DFI board (the n4 LanParty
board) - and OCZ or Crucial are in my list.

Putting it all into a Silverstone Temjin 6 case (nice design, quiet
cooling) - this Old Pentium has been a workhorse and that 1.6 really did
overclock great. Will be used by my wife now...

I'm hoping to see some good stuff out of AMD's offerring. Thanks ALL for
the responses (any more??). checking prices this week.

BTW - the 'crunching numbers' only referred to the speed of the CPU, not
what I do with it... not much data work here. Mostly video (no
rendering) review and basic home office/business/creative stuff.
