Crushed my CPU?

So, I decided that I wanted to try overclocking my CPU a little. I bought a Corsair H75 liquid cooling system to help do the job. It was very difficult for me to put on-- especially because I later realized that I had it in upside down.

Anyways, I figured out how to put it in the right way, but both ways I was tightening it pretty tight because I failed to realize that the cooler touches the CPU before you even screw anything in. So, I turned on the computer, and I got a red death light on the CPU_Led.

After much panic and grief, I put in an old CPU that I forgot I had. Computer went on fine after that and booted with a signal to the monitor ( with the bad cpu, weven the video card wasn't sending a signal to the monitor before.)
My question: Did I simply crush the CPU due to my having tightened it too much? Has anyone heard of anyone doing this before? It doesn't look crushed, and the pins are pristine. I know the cooler is working because its fans went on and I actually heard the liquid flowing through the device, so it's very unlikely that the cooler itself failed to cool the CPU sufficiently-- I mean the CPU would shut down the system if it got to hot anyways.

Any insight is much appreciated. Thank you!

Yeah you killed that thing.

It's a Corsair H75, and I am RMAing the cpu.

Yes. I believe the CPU_LED red death light turned on as soon as I initially turned on the power after having installed the cooler.

However will I sleep at night?

It's not a matter of sleeping at night, it's a matter of how moderators feel about this, and whether you'll get banned for talking about it. I haven't seen any examples of people doing this here, so I don't know, but most tech forums are really touchy about warranty fraud.
