Hey guys so I'm currently using a Cryorig H7 to cool my 2 year old Intel i5 4690. I'm a little bit concerned about the temperatures I've been getting, but would like to get some clarification. Idle, I've been getting around 40-50 degrees celsius, while around 50-60 degrees celsius when gaming. I'm not sure if this is too high or not? Is this too hot for this CPU? Do I need to reapply thermal paste? Thanks in advance.

Cpu temps will fluctuate with use, that's not uncommon at all. While the h7 is a decent cooler it's a midrange cooler. Better than low budget, not quite as good as a high end air or aio water cooler. Idle temps have to be measured when the cpu is idle. If it's jumping to 30% load or higher, it's working and not idle. Idle temps are with everything that isn't critical shut down, all applications (aside from thermal monitor) closed, no updates running, no av scans or anything. It should drop to around 2, maybe 3% use down to 0%. It's nearly impossible to keep it at 0% but you get the idea.

Temps also depend on the ambient room temp since that's the 'cold' air that's brought into the case for overall component cooling. Ambient room temps...

Hmm Bro In My Opinion The Worrying Temp Should Be In 75-85 C And The Very Dangerous Should Be in 85-95 Celsius

So In This Temp It Makes No Problem For Sure

If U Can Use (Borrow) Another Cooling System ( Except Stock :) ) Try To Use It And See IF It Got Any Improve On The Temp . It May Be Because Of Ur Cooling System .

But U Can Take A Look On The Cooling System Of That Too. If U See Anything Abnormal Try To Fix It And If Every Thing Was Ok. I Think It Makes U No Problem And This Temp Isnt Damaging !!! :) . So Dont Worry . :)

Idle temps seem a bit high, what are the ambient room temps? Are you checking temps with the cpu actually idle (0-3% use) or is there a chance background applications or windows itself are causing the cpu to work at 20-30% despite you not actively doing anything? The load temps seem normal which is odd given the idle temps. Gaming temps are fine and not running hot.

I'm looking at the temperatures now with Core Temp and the temps seem to be while the load percentage is jumping from around 5% to 30%. This would be due to background applications which I do have running. And with this amount of load its going from around 40% to 50% but keeps changing. Based off of the link you just sent me apparently the temperatures are normal, but just wondering why it wouldn't be lower with an aftermarket cooler.
 
Thank you for your reply. My cooling system is under a year old and is pretty good. It has good reviews and is definitely better than a stock cooler.

Ambient room temps of 22c will result in cooler idle/load temps than 30c ambient room temps, it's fairly linear. For every degree the ambient room temp rises, idle temp generally increases a degree as well. When many review sites benchmark a cooler they often state what ambient temps were, usually around 22c as 'normal' room temp.

While high idle temps (if the cpu were at 50c when it's at 0-3% use) may indicate a general problem such as poor cooler contact from installation error, the more important temp is the load temp. That's when the cpu is going to risk overheating or not and since you're staying well below 70c under typical workloads your temps are fine.

Even larger air coolers won't make idle temps ice cold. You can't cool below ambient so if the room is 22c the cpu won't ever be below 22c unless using active cooling like a peltier (similar to air conditioning), liquid nitrogen or something along those lines. Where larger air coolers or water coolers excel is in handling load temps. Even then it's not as though you'll see a cpu at 40c under load, it will still climb to around 60c even with good cooling under load. The difference comes in removing heat efficiently as the cpu grows even hotter as it would when overclocked. An example would be a budget cooler and high end cooler keeping a stock cpu at 60c under load. However if the cpu is capable and overclocked heavily, the high end cooler may keep temps around 65c while the lower end cooler starts seeing temps of 75-80c.

All in all it seems the cooler is working properly and your temps are fine. I was just trying to explain the way it generally works and why you're not seeing lower temps. Also why it's not unusual that you're not seeing lower temps.
