So I recently got a gaming computer and decided to mine. Additionally I got a new 3080 coming in to increase my profits from mining. I want to run both cards and my current power supply is 750 W which was recommended to power both gpus and the full system. The possible problem is that the PSU has only 2 PCIE cables. 1 would need to go into the existing 2060 and 2 are required to go into the 3080. I saw online that you shouldn't have a splitter power the GPU (first off is this true). Secondly could I plug 1 PCIE cable into the 3080 and split the other PCIE cable and go into the 3080 and one of the split cables go into the 2060 if splitting is bad or is this equally as bad?

Lastly if all of these solutions do not work.. do I need to upgrade my PSU to a modular model that has at least 3 VGA slots? I am a bit of a noob so sorry if this makes no sense.

Solution
You should NOT split already split PCIe vga power cables. For example the ones that are: 8 pin (PSU side) -> 8 + 8 pin (GPU side). You can however split a power cable that doesn't have already have a split: 8 pin -> 8 pin. You will need this: https://www.googleadservices.com/pa...iI6NWa8NfuAhUTHM0KHXv2DPQQ9aACegQIEhBK&adurl=

Also I would be wary with a 750w PSU - the 3080, the entire 3000 series actually, is known to spike power draw randomly. So if you experience random shut offs the 750w...

Solution
Having dabbled in mining Ethereum with my 3080 and reading the latest findings about VRAM temperatures (not gpu temps) I have decided not to, Id rather just buy some Ethereum. It’s seems very difficult to keep the VRAM temperature under the 96c maximum rating for GDDR6X. I really expect it will have a significant impact on the GPU’s life.
