based on what i just found on google Crysis 2 is the most demanding game there is for the pc. but i dont think i need the very best graphics card to run this game. i read that the ati radeon 4870 x2 is more than enough and its only about 150 dollars. am i wrong about any of this or is this good?

thank you for correcting me. i am trying to build my first computer. i hope it goes well.

so far ive decided to give it 12gb of ram. 120gb of hard drive space. amd phenom 1100t black edition. two radeon hd 4870 X2 graphics cards.

the 4870x2's are junk by today's standards and are beat to hell by most "everyday" cards. cross firing them only adds to headaches.

Crysis2 will clobber cards especially when the texture patch is applied.

there's a big difference in games here. Metro will run fine at lower frame rates where crysis won't.

forget the past. follow modern benchmarks and plan on spending $250 for a decent card.

should have mentioned complete specs with opsys and monitor size/res.

Please post a topic in the new build forums and use the new build form at the top of the forum. You'll get lots of great input that way.

Most people have no need of 12GB of ram. Also that would most likely kick it out of dual channel mode which is not good. 8GB is plenty, 16GB is the typical next step up.

120GB harddrive is probably not enough, games are getting big. unless you mean 120GB SSD plus a harddrive.

As much as it pains me to say it AMD is not the way to go for gaming. Intel is unfortunately kicking their butt. this is from a guy who has ALWAYS gone AMD. and I love my current system.

The 4870x2 is a bad choice. no direct x11, a power hog, lots of heat and not sure on price. crossfire does better than dual GPU cards.

Not ripping on your choices we all learn as we go and its your first build. A post in the new build forum will get you some good ideas about what you need to meet your goals in your budget. you can look for part reviews on toms

i thought that the more ram i have the better it is for the processor and the graphics card. doesnt it improve the computers performance? if 12gb is overkill then how come some mobos support up to 32gb of ram?

You are going to want to get AT LEAST a HD 6950 for it to be a worthwhile upgrade.

The HD4870X2 is a powerful as a HD 5870 (little weaker than a HD 6950) but what it does lack is DX11.

Dude what are you talking about ending driver support for the 5xxx series? They will continue to update those on the same regular basis as the new cards because the 5xxx series is DX11 so driver support would make sense to continue on the 5xxx series. They usually don't end driver support until about 5-6 years after the product is out.
