Ok here's the deal. I bought Crysis 3. Then I installed it and played it. To my surprise, I couldn't even get a stable 60fps on low at 1080p. It was dropping into the 40's and 50's. This is even in multiplayer. This is on the lowest settings, with AA disabled.

I have a HD 7850 Graphics Card and a Core i3 2120 cpu.

Should I be expecting these low framerates? Or is this a driver issue or something?

Also, would upgrading to an i5 get me a stable 60fps in this game?

The 7850 on it's own can get about ~35 frames on high settings at 1080p, so 60 frames would be unlikely. The i3 shouldn't affect frames that dramatically, if anything but about 5 frames. if you were to run at medium you should be realistically be looking at the 50 mark.

So it would be an underlining issue with drivers or perhaps the system not getting enough power and throttling it's self.

I actually blame the CPU. When I'm running Crysis 3 my i5 3550 is near 95% on all cores the entire time.

These are for high but as you can see the 7850 will limit the avg FPS but the i3 cripples the minimum.

17.0 is quite bad for mins. The 2120 is sizeably worse than the 3220 if I remember correctly.. so that might even make that issue even bigger.

Yeah, but I'm not even talking high details though.

I'm talking about trying to get a smooth 60fps on low. I think it may be a CPU bottleneck.

An easy way to tell how is to raise the settings, to something like High. If the frames barely budge up or down, then its a CPU bottleneck. I think its just that one game, in most other games the i3 would be suitable for a 7850. But for a game like Crysis 3, for which I've noticed it hitting 90-100% on all my i5 3550's cores, it might be too much for that little i3.
