Hello

Recently I got a new computer. It has a Nvidia 1070 GPU and i5 6600K CPU. The problem is when I play cs:go I have quite a lot of screen tearing. I don't think it's normal to have that with a computer like this in such a simple game. I already tried multiple things like changing settings and enabeling v-sync but those things don't seem to work. Is there something I can try to do fix this?
Thanks

Hello!

I had the exact same issue with GTA 5 when I spent....all....afternoon trying to optimise my rig for it, what you have to do is go to your Nvidia Control Panel, go to applications, search for CSGO under applications and enable triple buffering for V-Sync, that's how I fixed my problem but that does introduce some input lag, experiment with V-Sync on and adaptive.

Hope this helps :)

In the control panel I already switched to adaptivr V-sync and ingame I chose triple buffering. It creates a ton of input lag and strangely enough the tearing is still the same. My friend is playing on a 660 and has no tearing without v-sync and such enabled.

Hmm....how peculiar.

Alright are your drivers up to date?

Maybe it's worth popping your GPU out and giving the PCI/e slot a clean with compressed air and get rid of any dust you see around the port, have you tried different graphical settings out of interest?

I have geforce experience installed and it says all drivers are up to date. My pc is new and there's no dust in the case at all. The only setting I ever changed was in the msi gaming app it was sett to OC mode but for some reason my computer had trouble with booting up in this mode so I switched to gaming mode. When I installed cs:go for the first time I had to install dx10 but during the installation my screen went black and I had to turn off my computer by pushing the power button for a few seconds. When I booted my pc back up the game worked. Maybe dx10 didn't install properly but I'm not sure if that could cause tearing while the rest of the game can run.

What monitor do you have? What framerate is CSGO running at when you turn on vsync? If you have a 60hz monitor CSGO should run at 60fps, if it is above or below 60 you can see screen tearing. Vsync always add input lag, triple buffering will add even more so turn that off. If you run csgo at 200fps+ with a 60hz monitor like i see so many CSGO players do you are going to have screen tearing, whether its very noticeable is down to you and your monitor.

I have a 60hz monitor and cs:go is indeed running at like 300fps. The thing is when I use the command fps_max 60 the tearing gets even worse. The v-sync option mouse lag is really annoying. I might try the v-sync option in the nvidia control panel to see if that works better. Also why don't I get tearing in overwatch where my fps are also around 200 with my 60hz monitor?

The vsync option in nvidia control panel is still going to add the same amount of input lag, I believe all adaptive vsync does is disable vsync when your frame rate falls below your refresh rate.

Try using that command but set it to 59 instead of 60. Thats how the game engine fps limit worked in bf4 you had to set it one frame below the refresh rate to not get tearing there is a reason for this but i forget, I would give that a try.
