CSGO launch "crash"

When I select "play" in steam instead of the game opening my monitor turns black for a second and then all the other windows I have open kind of adjust to one side of the screen like something will happen but nothing does. Steam says the game is running (next to the game title in the library) and the game is running in the task manager, but there is not icon on the task bar and no other signs that the game is running. Please help.

Verify the integrity of the game cache, and if that doesn't work, I would re-install the game. I've had this issue in the past, and doing one/both of those things always fixes the issue for me.
