Hi Guys,
I have recently been looking at Supermicro's Website and have come across quite a few motherboards that support Quad CPU's. Does anyone have any idea what kind of workload would require so many cores?

Thanks, RAIDKING

Database could, high performance computing (HPC) could, virtualization could. The majority of quad socket servers sold are probably used in a virtualized environment, hosting dozens to hundreds of VMs. Universities buy boxes like that for compute hosts in a HPC computing center. For problems that need large memory (.5 to 1TB RAM) a quad socket box is a cost effective implementation
