Curious about new modem

I currently have a rental from comcast, Motorola SB5100 surfboard. Ive been getting a lot of inconsistent service lately and Im really sick of it. I play a lot of online games and Im tired of losing service in the middle of a game. So my thought is to drop this rental which is probably so old and get a new modem but I wonder if it could really help? I have a router as well which is a Linksys WRT54G2 v1.5 if thats helpful info at all. Any assistance would be great.

hey i suppose it is possible but i can tell you that people complain, en masse, about comcasts service

well the service definitely sucks i think but thats all i have to use so i dont have much choice. is there nothing at all on my end i can do to assist the issue?

assuming they dont charge you id have a tech from comcast come out with a new modem, try that. also get them to check the connection outside your home. make sure the signal is nice and clear
