So, I just posted and got some good responses which I appreciate very much. Looks like I have to wait for some components to become available away from the hands of scalpers.

Which has me thinking... What good is my current PC as it stands and how much of an upgrade would make it work as a backup/gift system to a friend?

Here is the build:

Case:
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Window Silent ATX Midtower Computer Case
MotherBoard:
ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990X + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
PSU:
CORSAIR RM Series RM650 650W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply
CPU:
FX-8350 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition Processor
RAM:
G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C7D-16GTX
HDDs:
Western Digital 1TB WD Blue PC Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, , 64 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD10EZEX
SSDs:
Samsung 850 Pro 128GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD
Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD
CPU Cooler:
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler, 4 CDC Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, Aluminum Fins for AMD Ryzen/Intel
GPU:
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Graphic Card - 1.05 GHz Core - 4 GB GDDR5 - PCI
OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium

And that's it. It runs well enough but I have failures really often in the USB ports on top of the case and there are a fair amount of times a year where for a week or two I will get blue screen/hang-screens of death that just fix themselves after a few restarts/walking away for a few days.

Do you think this could be a machine to last a few more years or would it be more practical to start over with a fresh ~$1,500 build and moving on from this 2014 build?

Thanks in advance. I would be looking to do a new build as soon as favored GPU is available.

Solution
I am using 2 1080x1920 monitors. 27" led nothing fancy. Also, the case has faulty USB hubs in the back and the front ones are unreliable as well. Basically I have 3 USB 2.0 slots to work with. Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination.
Yeah for real! Once the scalping is done and supplies are back, I'd be in business. How do you feel about that PSU being 6 years old?
You're going to want a new case and psu but the psu will depend on your gpu.

Upgrade the MB, CPU, RAM and GPU ... but wait on the GPU until the RTX cards come back in stock. btw what's your monitor resolution?
