often when entering text, with the cursor remaining where I last place it either with my laptops touch pad of blue tooth mouse, text entry will "automatically" jump back to the place where the cursor is instead of proceeding on normally. can you help?

This may be happening because you might be touching the laptop mouse pad which is also working along with your bluetooth mouse. You can disable the laptop touchpad from start > control panel > device manager . In device manager check human interface devices - you might see the touch pad listed. (some laptops may list it as usb mouse). Right click and "Disable". This should solve your problem.

I am not sure but i thought this was a mouse setting, try too look in your mouse settings.
This if i recall correctly with synaptics touch pads, turn down the sensitivity a bit or if you use a external mouse anyways turn off that touchpad completely.
