My son's computer is running WIN 2K Pro with all the patches and service
packs installed. At startup the cursor is just not there. It happened a few
days ago.

He has Norton A-V 2005 installed and running. He uses AOL 9.0. He has an
IPOD and Canon Digital camera attached through a powered USB hub. I
disconnected the hub and tried rebotting in safe mode with the mouse
installed into the computer's USB port but it didn't help. Still no cursor.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base.

The wireless mouse batteries are ok as the mouse light is on and steady.

Any ideas?

Even though mouse may indicate to be working OK, there is
no real guarantee that it is connecting properly to the
computer. Turn off computer, plug in PS-2 mouse, and start
computer. Delete USB mouse drivers...turn off computer,
plug in the USB mouse, start computer and have Windows 2000
detect and re-install the USB mouse drivers. HTH & GL.
